DENVER CHAPTER MEETINGS/EVENTS
The NCMA Denver Member and Alumni Traveling Happy Hour: February 9, 2012, 5:30 p.m. at Baker Street Pub Grill
Back in October last year, the first NCMA Traveling Happy Hour was held. When spreading the word, we had promised the happy hour would happen on roughly a monthly basis. As you can see, we really meant roughly! But, for those of you who might have lost hope, the second installment of the NCMA Traveling Happy Hour will be held on February 9th, beginning at 5:30 p.m., at Baker Street Pub Grill, 7260 West Alaska Drive, Lakewood. Both current and former NCMA members (our alumni) are invited and are very welcome to join us. In fact, what the heck, feel free to bring your colleagues too (even if not NCMA'ers) as this is a great opportunity to network, make new friends, or reconnect with acquaintances from years past.
Avoiding Errors in Accounting and Reporting Under CAS, FAR and GAAP: February 14, 2012, 7:30 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. at Cafe del Sol, 608 Garrison Street, Lakewood, CO.
Speaker: Karla Whittenburg is a certified public accountant. She is a partner in the audit service area of EKS&H and has been involved in public accounting since 1993. She provides audit and business consulting services to privately- held companies in a wide variety of industries, including government contractors, high-tech and software, retail, distribution, manufacturing and services.
The presentation will explore common errors encountered in external financial reporting under Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). We will discuss the relationship between the Cost Accounting Standards (CAS) and the Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR), and GAAP. The presentation will include a discussion on why GAAP financial statements are required and how these audits differ from regulatory audits, such as those conducted by the DCAA.
We will also explore the areas with the greatest risk of material misstatement under GAAP and how to mitigate those risks.
Agenda – February 14, 2012: registration/networking at 7:30a.m.; breakfast buffet beginning at 7:45 a.m.; speaker at 8:15 a.m.; conclusion at 9:00 a.m.

OCIs and TINA: March 21, 2012, 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at United Launch Alliance, LLC
Speaker: Tom Lemmer, Partner, McKenna Long & Aldridge LLP
Organizational conflicts of interest (“OCIs”) and Truth in Negotiations Act (“TINA”) requirements are key to making many acquisitions a success for both the government and the contractor. Properly managing OCI allows the government to ensure that a level playing field exists, while having access to the right contractors, and allows contractors to maximize their procurement opportunities.
Properly managing TINA requirements allows the negotiation of a mutually accepted price that is not subject to after the fact reductions and disputes. These two important areas will be discussed on an interactive basis to cover the basics and to discuss cutting edge issues and best practices.
Agenda – March 21, 2012: registration/networking at 5:00 p.m. (boxed meal provided); session runs from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
Location: United Launch Alliance, LLC, 7958 South Chester Street, Conference Room A1002A, Centennial, CO (directly behind IKEA) (South Chester Street and East Nichols Avenue)
Cost/registration: $50 per member; $65 per nonmember; register by March 16, 2012, at https://www.123signup.com/event?id=ctcdq
