Seminar - "Public Contracting in Colorado"

McKenna Long & Aldridge LLP has been selected by Thomson West to

participate in its Public Contracting in the States series.  "Public Contracting in Colorado" on June 18th at the Hyatt Regency in the Denver Tech Center.

Here is link to the Federal Publications course description and registration site:

>

>

State and local governments account for an estimated $600 billion in procurement spending, and Thomson West has realized that more can be done in educating government and industry about state and local procurement.  Thomson West (through Federal Publications Seminars) is selecting industry leaders in government procurement law to develop seminars and publications aimed at the state and local procurement community.  The follow-on Thomson West publication on Public Contracting in Colorado is due for release in 2009.

The course director, Richard Pennington, is Of Counsel in the Denver Government Contracts Department.   He was the former director of the Colorado Division of Finance and Procurement and state purchasing director.  He remains an honorary member of the National Association of State Procurement Officials.

This one-day course will be relevant to all personnel involved in any public contracting: federal, state, or local. The course will be taught by five attorneys in the Denver government contract practice group of McKenna Long & Aldridge LLP.  They have broad public procurement and contracting experience. The course will cover state and local contracting authority, negotiated and other types of procurements, bid protests and award issues, intellectual property and liability allocation, key fiscal and contracting issues in state and local contracting, public works contracting, significant differences from federal procurement, and other important policies in state and local contracting.  The course would be a natural fit for any company working in (or considering entry into) those markets, and the counsel advising them.  For federal contractors, because Colorado is a Model Procurement Code state, the course would provide an excellent refresher introduction regarding federal procurement practices as well.  The course also would be useful for finance, procurement, construction management, and legal professionals in institutions of higher education, local governments, districts, or state departments.

Please feel free to contact Stacey Gustus at sgustus@mckennalong.com or 303-634-4428 with any questions.

From the Membership Chair

Welcome new members for April!  As you can see, April had a huge jump in membership due to the addition of United Launch Alliance (ULA) to the Denver chapter of NCMA.  Special thanks to Paul Fisher, our current President-Elect, for this month’s jump in membership.  Paul, who was last year’s Membership Chair, can’t shake the membership bug and has outdone himself by working and coordinating this 102 member ULA membership.  Kudos to Paul! !!!

Please welcome all new members to the NCMA family!
