Ball Corporation
While Ball Corp. notified the Chapter that they are not able to be a corporate sponsor this year, Ball (Through John Godzac) has made us a wonderful offer. Ball is willing to provide the NCMA Denver Chapter with a grant of up to $2,000 for our use in 2008 for a specific purpose. We need to determine what that purpose is so that I can notify John and see if he will approve it.

Commentary
that calls for separating contracting officials from contractors labeled
"absurd."
Ethics
03-14-08: Commentary calls separating contracting officials from contractors "absurd." In a blog posting yesterday on Federal Computer Week, Steve Kelman, professor of public management at Harvard University's Kennedy School of Government and former administrator of the Office of Federal Procurement Policy, expresses his concern over reports that, "on the 'advice' of counsel or ethics advisors," more than ten senior government contracting officials have declined positions on the National Contract Management Association's (NCMA's) Board of Advisors because it includes contractor representatives. "This development is as absurd as it is deeply saddening," Kelman contends. "The view that government will get better results from contracting if customer and supplier do not communicate with or understand each other goes against all the evidence that it is poor communication and poor understanding across organizational boundaries that are likely to create problems for creating successful business relationships, not the opposite." He acknowledges that there is a role in the contracting process for auditors, who should be independent and separate, but concludes that "to let the auditor mentality run the business relationship between customer and supplier is a recipe for disaster."
