MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT:

Thank you to the 18 members and 1 guest who came out to the presentation by Wackenhut regarding security services in 2007 and beyond.  The information surrounding the 2008 Democrat National Convention right here in Denver was particularly interesting.  Remember that if any of you see anything going on anywhere that seems curious or out of place, it is better to make a call and report it than to let it go.  You never know what good a phone call can do.

I look forward to seeing everyone at the Fall Symposium called "Scope Definition and Management."  This will be an excellent opportunity to learn more about Project Management from a Contract Manager/Administrator perspective.  I am personally looking forward to the portion regarding Change Management, which is a never ending challenge.  I hope to see you all there!

And this is a heads up for December.  Our December meeting will be the Holiday Party, time and date to be determined.  This is a great chance to head out for a great night in Denver and enjoy the company of your significant other for a great meal while trying to appreciate the junk...I mean treasures, that always pop up (seemingly again and again) during the gift exchange.  The food is always good and the company is always entertaining.  Stay tuned for more regarding the Holiday Party, as information becomes posted to the Denver Chapter website later this month.

Steve Peck, Denver Chapter President

DENVER CHAPTER’S 2007 FALL SYMPOSIUM:

Scope Definition and Management

Thursday, November 15, 2007

(8:00 – 4:30 p.m., The Franciscan Event Center*)

This year’s Fall Symposium is set for November 15th! It will be held at the Franciscan Event Center. This year’s topic is “Scope Definition and Management.” This Symposium is being presented by the professional Contract Management Trainers at ESI International.  Project Managers and Contract Managers are “parallel authorities.” That is, the Project Manager “owns” the project while the Contract Managers “owns” the contract. Since they both are on the Project Management team together (along with others), it is essential they find a way to collaborate to succeed, while respecting the different

authorities/ownerships.  This is a PM overview for Contract Managers (Government and Commercial).

* The Franciscan Event Center is located at 6553 South Revere Parkway, Englewood, Colorado, 80111, 303-790-0477. Directions: take I-25; east on Arapahoe Road; left onto South Revere; second entrance on the left.

Scope planning is the most important first step in any project plan. Learn to

accurately define project scope, create a work breakdown structure (WBS) that details all work components, and the elements involved in scope verification and scope control.

Learn how to develop a scope management plan and develop the criteria to determine if the project is successful. Topics will include but are not limited to:

· Preliminary Scope Definition

· Scope Management

· Work Breakdown Structure (WBS)

· Baseline

· Change Management ~ Change Orders

This seminar is a fast-track colloquium that ESI has developed specifically at the request of the NCMA Denver Chapter and is culled from their existing course called “Scheduling and Cost Control” with a unique focus on scope planning from a contracting perspective.  The seminar will be led by Mr. Lawrence Jameson, an instructor with ESI International.  Do not miss this opportunity to receive timely and relevant training for all Program and Contract Managers/Administrators.

Attendees will receive: 6 Professional Development Units (PDUs) .6 Continuing Education Units (CEUs)

For CLE credits: For attorneys seeking continuing legal education (CLE) credits from a specific State Bar CLE Board, an attorney may complete and submit a CLE Credit Application (available upon request) and the appropriate fee (if indicated) to the GW/ESI CLE Administrator at The George Washington University Law School, 901 North Glebe Road, Suite 200, Arlington, Virginia, 22203. The ESI/GWU CLE Administrator will forward the appropriate information to the specified State Bar CLE Board on behalf of the attorney.

Cost is $225 for members and $250 for non-members. Groups of ten (10) or more will be priced at $200 per member. The registration form follows.
